Introduction

“Kobolds are funny little creatures. They stand no taller than two and a half feet tall, shorter than even halflings. Scales cover their body much like their ancient dragon ancestors. Their muzzle’s are filled with sharp teeth, but they are omnivores. The claws on their tiny hands are only good at digging tunnels. Alone they are no more than a nuisance, but together they can best some of the most experienced adventures.

For this little story we will be looking at one kobold in particular, Ort. Sometimes known as Ort the Egg Layer, Ort the Fearsome Cave Dweller and Ort the Matchmaker. However, Ort was not always the adventurer she is today. Once she was a young hatchling working in her tribe and learning to be a guard and hunter.

For kobolds there are really only two tracks of life. If you are a fertilizer, or as we non reptilians call it being a boy, you will become a guard of the tribe, a hunter, a scout or any combination of those. If you are an egg layer, a girl, you could be a cook, gatherer, egg keeper or a hatchling caretaker.

By now you might be noticing something that doesn’t line up with what I have already told you. That being that I called our hero Ort the Egg layer but she was training to be a guard and hunter which is a fertilizers job. This is because Ort was not always an egg layer, she was actually born a fertilizer. And this is where I think our story should begin…”
